PDMDAAC, or poly dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride, is a naturally occurring compound used in multiple applications in past years. The popularity of this compound is not limited to one or two lines but is widespread in many commercial uses.

But the question is, “Why is PDMDAAC so popular?” Well, this is all because of the physical and chemical characteristics of this compound. A few known properties are odorless, tasteless, degradation, water solubility, and strong effectiveness.

This compound is generally known for its importance in water treatment and dyeing industries. PDMDAC is a quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) often used as an antimicrobial agent in consumer products because it has been found to kill bacteria on surfaces such as countertops or tables where food might be prepared during meal preparation activities.

So, here we bring some tips to use this compound for disinfection applications, but you can apply them every time using this compound!

Tip#1 Don’t dissolve the compound directly In water

Organic compounds are recommended to dissolve the compound rather than water. Although this compound is soluble in water when using it as a disinfectant, avoid using it directly. You can dissolve the compound in various organic solvents and then dilute it in water. This method will increase the compound’s absorption in the skin without causing any bubbles.

Tip#2 When using viscose fabric, please add 0.1% of the softener to prevent yellowing after disinfection

Viscose is a form of rayon, which is made from cellulose. Rayon is a natural polymer that gives viscose its characteristic texture and feels in use. It’s also used to make clothing items such as sweaters or shirts that look like wool but are made with artificial fibers like polyester or acrylics instead.

So, when applying the PDMDAC on such fabrics, make its solution with 0.1% softener that will protect the cloth from yellowing.

Tip#3 Please use the solution within 24 hours after preparation

PDMDAC and many other chemicals lose effectiveness when left as a solution for too long. You can store the compound in pure form as long as you want. However, if you prepare a solution for this compound, make sure to use that within 24 hours; otherwise, the compound will no longer be effective. Within those 24 hours, you can store the solution in a cool place.

Tip#4 Prepare Well

PDMDAC disinfection solution must be prepared before adding other chemicals to ensure that there are no other organic materials in the water. Otherwise, it may cause product deterioration during storage or affect its effectiveness. The concentration of PDMDAC should not exceed 0.5% by mass and preferably should be less than 0.2%.

If too much PDMDAC is added to the water tank, it will cause corrosion on pipes due to excessive amounts of salt (because the compound is chlorinated in nature) in the solution, which can clog up pipes leading to leakage or blockages resulting in the wastage of valuable resources like water or fuel due to poor performance due to faulty equipment installation.

Tip#5 Wear Gloves and Avoid Direct Contact

When using the compound, remember to wear gloves when you handle this product. Also, avoid touching it directly and contact with the skin or eyes for a long time to prevent skin irritation or damage to the eyes and respiratory tract.

Keep out of reach of children and pets, as ingestion may cause serious injury or death in both species. Do not breathe dust/fume/gas/mist/vapors/spray, which may be generated during use exposure unless adequate precautions have been taken. You might have read that this compound is non-toxic, but its consumption will surely cause a serious issue in your system.
